Bon-Ton blames slightly lower November sales on Hurricane SandyBrent Burkey
The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. reported slightly lower sales for the four-week period that ended Saturday, which included the traditional start of the holiday shopping season.
But the department store business, with corporate offices in York County and Milwaukee, said that its post-Thanksgiving results were ahead of last year and reported Hurricane Sandy negatively impacted sales at the beginning of the period.
Overall, the retailer reported a 0.1 percent comparable-store sales decrease and a 0.8 percent total sales decline during its four-week November timeframe, according to a news release.
Total sales were $301.3 million compared with $303.6 million in the comparable period last year, according to the release.
Total sales for the company’s year so far remain slightly higher at more than $2.2 billion, up about $600,000 compared with the year-ago timeframe.
The Bon-Ton Stores operates 273 department stores, including 11 furniture galleries, in 24 states under the Bon-Ton and other nameplates.
