A new hospitality business has opened within The Yorktowne Hotel in downtown York.

Yorktowne Salon & Spa is on the lower level of the hotel and seeks to cater to hotel guests and local business professionals, the release stated.

Open five days a week and Sundays and Mondays by appointment, Yorktowne Salon & Spa's services include hair and nail treatments, massage packages and body treatments, according to the release.

The business is a benefit to the hotel overall, said Rick Cunningham, general manager of The Yorktowne Hotel.

Having the business on site makes the Yorktowne more of a "one-stop shop" for weddings; corporate clients can use the salon and spa for massages after a long day of work; and it makes for a better offering of the Yorktowne as a romantic getaway, Cunningham said.

It's also expected to bring in local traffic, and there are special packages that include lunch within the hotel as part of a visit to the salon and spa, he said.

A ribbon-cutting for the business is scheduled for Monday.

The Yorktowne Hotel came under new ownership and a new management entity nearly a year ago after it sold through a York County Sheriff's Office sale in December.

The facility was called "downtown York's business hotel" in the period leading up to the sale because of its status as an important hub for business and community life in the city.
