Giant to renovate Halifax storeJim T. Ryan
Beginning in January, Giant Food Stores plans to renovate its Halifax store in upper Dauphin County to modernize the decor and add greater energy efficiency and more product variety.
The renovation to the Giant at 3777 Peters Mountain Road in Halifax Township isn’t a big project but is designed to “freshen up the store,” company spokesman Chris Brand said.
“The key is to give our customers a bright, modern place to shop,” he said.
Aside from other aesthetic renovations to the store that was first opened in 1994, Giant will replace its cooler cases, lighting and other items in the stores with energy-efficient models, he said. The store will get new registers as well.
Plans are to add more variety at the Halifax store in its fresh and frozen products, including the introduction of more natural and organic products, Brand said. Those additions will include gluten-free products.
The renovation won’t expand the approximately 32,000-square-foot store, Brand said. The project will take about three months to complete. The company does not share total costs of such projects, he said.
Giant recently opened a beer garden and eatery for in-store and take-out beer sales at its store on Linglestown Road in Susquehanna Township. On Nov. 14, the supervisors in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, approved the transfer of a liquor license to the Giant store at 6560 Carlisle Pike for a similar operation there.
Giant Food Stores, based in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, is a division of Ahold USA, which has headquarters there and in Quincy, Mass. Ahold is a subsidiary of Netherlands-based grocer Royal Ahold.
