The family that owns the Gettysburg Times is selling it to a Huntington-based publisher, the 9,300-circulation newspaper announced this week.
George and Marlene Sample own Sample News Group. The chain operates 12 small-market newspapers in five states, according to the Associated Press.
Jane Barr and Anne Carter, the daughters of deceased former Times publisher Phil Jones, announced the sale Monday, with closing targeted for Feb. 1, according to a story on the paper’s website. Terms are not being disclosed.
Messages left with the Times and George Sample this morning seeking additional comment were not immediately returned. The AP quoted Sample as saying Gettysburg is “a great market with a lot of opportunity.”
