The Association of Pennsylvania State College & University Faculties announced this afternoon that members have voted to authorize the negotiations committee to call a strike if necessary.

APSCUF represents more than 6,000 faculty and coaches at Millersville, Shippensburg and the other 12 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

APSCUF said 86 percent of union members voted, and 95 percent of those participating voted in favor of giving its negotiators the power to call a strike if they decide to. APSCUF’s next negotiating session with PASSHE is scheduled for Dec. 11.

At their last meeting, on Nov. 9, PASSHE presented a new proposal, summarized here and responded to here, and APSCUF announced that it would be presenting a new counterproposal at the next meeting.

There has never been a faculty strike in the state system.
