Judge grants Highmark injunction request

By - Last modified: November 9, 2012 at 4:43 PM

A judge has granted Highmark Inc.'s request for a preliminary injunction barring West Penn Allegheny Health System from seeking other partners or purchasers.

Judge Christine Ward said in her brief ruling that refusing the injunction would result in greater harm than granting it would.

WPAHS announced in September that it planned to pursue other options, saying Highmark had breached the terms of their agreement. Highmark denied any breach and requested the injunction, after which WPAHS countersued for unspecified damages while still keeping the door open for an agreement with Highmark.
