Belco moving downtown Harrisburg branch

Swatara Township-based Belco Community Credit Union has broken ground on a new branch office on its operations center property on Paxton Street.

The credit union’s Swatara branch at 4115 Paxton St. will replace an existing downtown Harrisburg location on North Second Street.

Construction began in late September on the nearly 3,300-square-foot facility. The branch is scheduled to open in late spring 2013, the credit union said.

“This facility has been planned since we moved here in 2006, but was put on hold for several years because of economic and budgetary reasons,” Lonny Maurer, Belco’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “Relocating our downtown branch to Paxton Street will allow us to offer greater member convenience, in the form of a larger facility, multi-lane drive-thru and ample parking, which are lacking at our Second Street location.”

Belco has 11 locations in Central Pennsylvania. The credit union has $386 million in assets and serves more than 51,000 members.

Maryland-based Overton and Associates LLC designed the new branch.
