The developer building the Candlewood Suites Hotel at TecPort in Dauphin County is proposing to build a four-story hotel with stores out front at the King Street exit of Interstate 81 near Shippensburg, according to preliminary plans filed with Shippensburg Township.
The plan from Aman Parekh, the Candlewood developer, and New Cumberland-based Hoover Engineering Services Inc. calls for a 12,442-square-foot hotel and three small lots at 120 and 122 Walnut Bottom Road in the township. The 7-acre site could have a fast food restaurant, convenience store and bank out front, according to the plans. No specific chains have been designated for the proposed development.
The hotel might require a setback variance as proposed, and the development might require a traffic light to handle the flow from the new businesses, said Linda Asper, township secretary and treasurer.
A small corner of the site is in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, but no development is set to occur there, Asper said.
Parekh did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment on the project. Hoover officers familiar with the project were not immediately available.
The township is expecting a final plan from the developers to be submitted at its Oct. 15 planning commission meeting, Asper said.
