As part of continued downtown revitalization efforts, the Harrisburg Young Professionals are planning a $40,000 landscape renovation of the State Street median between Front and Third streets.

The 6-foot-wide median is currently patched grass and dirt. It is crossed daily by pedestrians around the state Capitol and has been poorly maintained.

Through an agreement with the city, HYP took over responsibility for the maintenance of the median, said board member Matthew Crocker.

The plan calls for installing new plantings the length of the median. These plantings would include colored perennial flowers at the tips of each median, State and Front streets, State and Second streets and State and Third streets.

In the intermediate part, the proposal includes a robust, limited maintenance plant.

HYP is in the final stages of hiring a landscaper to complete the work, Crocker said. The project is expected to take place over two days, Sept. 28 and Sept. 29.

The group also is in the process of raising funds for the project. To date, $9,200 has been raised. Donations are being accepted on HYP's website.

HYP has received a combined $5,000 from The Foundation for Enhancing Communities and Susquehanna Bank, Crocker said.
