Corbett signs order for 'timely' DEP permitting

By - Last modified: July 25, 2012 at 10:49 AM

The state Department of Environmental Protection must immediately begin assessing how to make “timely permitting decisions” in keeping with an executive order Gov. Tom Corbett issued Tuesday, according to a news release.

One of the biggest complaints the governor hears is about the amount of time it takes businesses, nonprofits and local governments to work through the permitting process, the release states.

The executive order establishes the Permit Guarantee Program for DEP to strive to make permitting decisions within established processing times for complete, technically adequate applications.

DEP also must coordinate the reviews of applications for projects with multiple permits, establish performance standards for staff reviewing permits, and develop and improve electronic permitting tools where it is possible, the release stated.
