Treasury distributing unclaimed property notifications

By , - Last modified: July 17, 2012 at 10:26 AM

The Pennsylvania Treasury will send out 40,000 notification letters in coming weeks to potential holders of unclaimed property, including businesses and individuals, the agency said Monday.

“We estimate 1 in 10 Pennsylvanians has unclaimed property,” Treasurer Rob McCord said in a statement.

Through ads, direct outreach and an online database, the bureau works to restore assets to their rightful owners.

In 2011-12, the Treasury’s Bureau of Unclaimed Property took custody of $234.6 million in unclaimed property abandoned at banks, businesses and other organizations throughout the commonwealth. The bureau’s unclaimed assets total $1.9 billion.
