The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation has completed fundraising for the park, slated for a spot behind the club on Berryhill Street.

Plans have been finalized and permit applications have been filed with the city for the 38,000-square foot area, said foundation Vice President Chuck Brady.

The center will include a baseball field, basketball court and exercise area.

The foundation also will be providing a $250,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club over two years for programs and operations at the park, Brady said.

The foundation anticipates groundbreaking before the end of the summer once the permits are approved, he said. The construction should take about five months to complete, he said.

The nonprofit foundation was founded in 2001 by members of the Ripken family to use baseball and softball programs to teach disadvantaged youth in distressed communities, according to its website.
