Wenger's assumes ownership of poultry feed mill

Lancaster County-based Wenger's Feed Mill Inc. on Saturday closed the purchase of a poultry feed mill from Pennfield Corp.

Wenger, based in Rheems, manufactures and delivers swine and poultry feeds.

“It was a natural fit for us to serve existing and new customers,” Wenger’s Chief Operating Officer Geoff Finch said.

The additional facility will increase the company’s volume output and also will add an organic feed product to its portfolio, he said.

The feed mill is at 3579 Hempland Road, on about 8 acres in West Hempfield Township.

East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County-based Pennfield sold the mill as part of refocusing on its core areas of dairy and retail feed supplies, President and CEO Arnold Sumner said.

Neither company released the purchase price of the deal.

No immediate renovations are planned for the poultry mill, but Wenger will evaluate for the long term to upgrade as necessary, Finch said.
