PennDOT awarded construction management support and inspection contracts to the engineering division of Allegheny County-based Michael Baker Corp. for Cumberland County road and bridge projects.

Engineering firm Michael Baker Jr. Inc. this month will start the three-year, $4.3 million contract that will have it inspect the reconstruction of bridges and roads in the county, according to the company. It also will provide management services.

The largest project involves the $24 million reconstruction of the Interstate 83 and Route 581 interchange in Lemoyne. PennDOT made the project a priority last year and site work began this year to prepare the interchange for a second I-83 northbound lane. Construction is expected to finish by 2015.

Other projects include:

• Bridge replacement on routes 11 and 15 over the Norfolk Southern railroad in East Pennsboro Township.

• Bridge replacement on Route 2028 over I-83 in Lemoyne.

• Interchange reconstruction and resurfacing of 4.5 miles of road on Route 15 in Camp Hill.
