Lancaster General Health launched a company to research and develop products and services to help transform health care, it announced on Tuesday.

Lancaster General Health Innovative Solutions Inc. will be run by Marion McGowan, executive vice president at LGH and president of Lancaster General Hospital. The nonprofit entity also will have a board of trustees chaired by Jeff Lehman, president of Shank's Extracts Inc. in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County.

The company will work to develop new and improved products and services, explore new health care delivery models and provide solutions across LGH's network to address gaps in services, according to a news release.

"This may include piloting new models for primary care, establishing new roles for caregivers, and enhancing the use of technology, such as mobile devices that can increase access to health services where people are, not just in health facilities and doctors' offices," the company said in a letter to employees.

LGH has hired a director of innovation for the endeavor, spokeswoman Frieda Schmidt said. Staff of the health care system will be involved in the new company and it will reach out to partner with organizations and people in the community, she said.
