Lancaster Regional Medical Center's CEO will now oversee Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center as well, the health businesses announced today.

Karen Metz, current CEO for Heart of Lancaster, has accepted a position within the two hospitals' parent company, Florida-based Health Management Associates Inc.

Bob Moore will begin his dual role on Monday, spokeswoman Amanda Brunish said.

Moore has been the CEO of Lancaster-based Lancaster Regional for two years, and previously was CEO of hospitals in Illinois, Missouri and Pennsylvania, according to a news release.

As the CEO of both hospitals, Moore will work closely with James Machado, who has been named administrator for Warwick Township-based Heart of Lancaster. Machado has been with the hospital for more than three years, first as chief financial officer and then as chief operating officer beginning in 2011.

"Heart of Lancaster and Lancaster Regional are both stronger organizations by working as one," Machado said in a statement.

Both hospitals have expansions planned this year, according to the release. Heart of Lancaster will add capacity to its neonatal intensive care unit and add more surgical suites. Both hospitals are preparing for the opening of the Regional Center for Cancer Care, across the street from Lancaster Regional on College Avenue.

Shares of HMA are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol HMA.
