Department store chain The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. is entering the Idaho market by opening a Herberger's store in the state, the company said.

Bon-Ton, with corporate offices in York County and Milwaukee, has signed a lease with Chicago-based General Growth Properties Inc. for a 122,500-square-foot facility in the Pine Ridge Mall in southeastern Idaho, according to a news release.

It initially will remodel and operate a store on the facility's lower level in about 61,300 square feet of space, the release stated.

Bon-Ton expects to begin remodeling next month and open the Herberger's when work wraps up around the end of October, according to the release.

Bon-Ton operates 272 department stores, including 11 furniture galleries, under the Bon-Ton, Herberger's and other nameplates. Shares are traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol BONT.
