California wine store debuts in Lancaster area

By , - Last modified: December 2, 2011 at 9:32 AM

The first private wine store in Pennsylvania to feature wine from California opens today in Lancaster County.

Thorn Hill Wines, at 1945 Fruitville Pike in Manheim Township, will offer wine tasting by the glass and sales by the bottle or case. Owners and Lancaster County residents Jack and Amy Thorn have been producing the vintages since 2007 at Thorn Hill Vineyards locations in California's Sonoma, Napa and Lake counties.

In March, Thorn Hill Wines obtained a Pennsylvania Limited Winery License, which allows wineries producing less than 200,000 gallons a year to sell their wares outside the state store system. Up to five stores are permitted.

The Manheim Township store will be open seven days a week, closing on select holidays including Christmas and New Year's Day.
