Carlisle Young Professionals launching in December

A former executive officer with the Harrisburg Young Professionals has spearheaded efforts to launch a similar organization in Carlisle next month.

The idea for the Carlisle Young Professional started in May when Michael R. Wilson, now the group's president, moved to the Cumberland County borough. He said he was looking for a similar young professionals group that didn't yet exist. The Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce was instrumental in helping launch the new group, he said.

Wilson was an officer with Harrisburg Young Professionals since 2004. He is an assistant principal at the Dauphin County-based charter school Commonwealth Connections Academy and a partner in Londonderry Township-based The Vineyards at Hershey, set to open in the spring.

Carlisle Young Professionals plans to offer a sports league for members, networking, sponsor arts and cultural events, student mentoring programs and other service endeavors, Wilson said. The group also will partner with Harrisburg Young Professionals to coordinate initiatives and programs, he said.

The group will introduce other executive members and take donations for Toys for Tots at its launch party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Gaia Fresh Food Café, 57 W. Pomfret St. in Carlisle.
