Update: Harrisburg Hospital's $27M ER expansion opens
PinnacleHealth System today will formally open the $27 million Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Emergency Department at Harrisburg Hospital on South Front Street.
PinnacleHealth has been remodeling and expanding the department for almost three years, spokesman Gray Onobrakpeya said. Completed in six phases, the department has 32,134 square feet of space, three times its previous size, he said.
The original emergency room was designed to handle 41,000 patient visits per year, and had been over capacity at 60,000 patient visits annually, according to a news release.
The new facility can accommodate up to 110,000 visits each year, with patients coming from Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and York counties, Onobrakpeya said.
The PinnacleHealth Foundation raised $12 million of the cost through a capital campaign, according to the release.
