Corbett signs workers' comp extension to small business

Gov. Tom Corbett has signed legislation that extends workers' compensation insurance availability to certain small businesses, the governor's office said today.

House Bill 440 authorizes insurers to offer workers' compensation packages to sole proprietors, partners in partnerships and members of limited liability corporations, according to a news release.

Generally speaking, they were not classified as employees prior to this change in the law and that affected the ability to get coverage, said Christopher Manlove, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
