H.B. McClure to acquire C.W. Fritz clients after its close

By ,

Harrisburg-based heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing company H.B. McClure Co. announced it is acquiring the clients of Lemoyne-based HVAC firm C.W. Fritz Co., which closed its business Monday.

H.B. McClure has an agreement in principal to purchase and maintain C.W. Fritz's 650 customer accounts, but no dollar figure has been worked out yet, said Jeri Donadee, H.B. McClure's vice president of sales and marketing. The deal does not include purchase of the company's liabilities or assets, he said.

C.W. Fritz did not file for bankruptcy, but just decided to close its doors, Donadee said.

Steve Kauffman, C.W. Fritz's office and operations manager, said its owner is retiring and decided to close the business.

In 2009, C.W. Fritz had revenue of $2.1 million, a 30 percent drop from the $3 million it had in 2003, according to Business Journal records. Likewise, the company's employee base had declined from 37 full-time in 2004 to 15 employees in 2009.

H.B. McClure has about 16,000 clients, Donadee said. Revenue in 2009 was $27 million, according to Business Journal records.
