Volvo Construction Equipment began expansion of its Shippensburg manufacturing facility.

The company, which makes large-scale construction equipment, is adding 200,000 square feet as part of a restructuring plan that will bring production of Volvo's line of graders to Shippensburg, according to the company. The addition will include assembly lines, loading docks and material areas.

Site preparation began Wednesday. The addition is in Southampton Township, Franklin County. The rest of the plant is in Shippensburg.

The construction is expected to be complete by March, according to Volvo.

The new line is expected to add about 100 jobs in coming years. In March, Volvo cut 94 jobs from the plant due to the recession.

Volvo Construction Equipment is an arm of Sweden-based heavy equipment and truck manufacturer Volvo Group. The plant in Shippensburg was owned by Ingersoll Rand Road Development, which Volvo acquired in 2007 for $1.3 billion.
