On Saturday, March 29 at 8 pm in Whitaker Center, pianist Ann Schein, one of the best interpreters of Chopin today and a pupil of the legendary pianist Arthur Rubinstein, will perform “Les Adieux,” or “Farewell” Sonata by Beethoven, poetic Sonatine by Ravel, exuberant “L’isle Joyeuse” (“Joy Island”) by Debussy, virtuosic Tarantella by Liszt and the epic Sonata in B Minor by Chopin. This performance is a part of mini-residency co-presented by the Harrisburg Symphony, which includes two performances of the Chopin F Minor Piano Concerto with the HSO on March 22 & 23, as well as a piano master class at Messiah College on March 28 at 5 PM.
From her first recordings for Kapp Records, and her highly acclaimed Carnegie Hall recital debut as an artist on the Sol Hurok roster, Ann Schein’s amazing career has earned her high praise in major American and European cities and in more than 50 countries around the world. She has performed with conductors including George Szell, James Levine, Seiji Ozawa, David Zinman and Sir Colin Davis, and with major orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, the London Symphony, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She has performed at the White House during the Kennedy administration.
The concert is sponsored by Thomas and Linda Pheasant. The season sponsor is Capital BlueCross. A resident company of Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, Market Square Concerts also receives support from the Cultural Enrichment Fund and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
