WellSpan Health has purchased the former Art Institute of York building, which the health system had already been leasing and using for training.

The purchase price was $4.775 million, according to Rock Commercial Real Estate, whose brokers Kevin Hodge and David Bode handled the transaction.

The two-story building, located at 1409 Williams Road in Springettsbury Township, is 37,352 square feet and has a 287-space parking lot, Hodge said.

WellSpan began leasing the former Art Institute campus in July 2016, said Will Lavery, a spokesman for WellSpan, which is based in York Township.

The space has been used for training WellSpan staff members on the use of Epic, an electronic health records system, Lavery said. The building will continue to be used for training, he added.

The Art Institute closed in May 2015 amid intense regulatory scrutiny of for-profit educational institutions.

The seller was Loren H. Kroh, according to Rock Commercial.
